ITSNJ Annual Awards

The awards recognize notable New Jersey projects, firms, programs, and individuals who have contributed substantially to the advancement of ITS technologies to improve surface transportation efficiency, safety, and mobility.

Awards are presented each year at the ITSNJ Annual Meeting. Each year the awards solicitation opens approximately 12 weeks in advance of the Annual Meeting, with all nominations received no later than 5-6 weeks, allowing time for the review committee to review and score all nominations.

Public Agency Official, Professional, and Young Professional Awards selections will be evaluated using the following criterion: 

  • Notable Accomplishment
  • Excellence of Achievement
  • Contribution to ITS Community
  • Involvement with ITSNJ or other Professional Organizations
NEW!  In 2025, ITSNJ will recognize Mobility Operators with a new award to recognize: 
  • Dedicated Service and Leadership
  • Excellence achieved in such fields as safety, maintenance, innovation, customer service, or operations
  • Contribution to their organization

Outstanding Project/Program selections will be evaluated using the following criterion: 

  • Uniqueness/Originality of Innovation
  • Demonstrated Need
  • Social or Economic Sustainability
  • Future Value to the Engineering Profession and Perception by the Public

ITSNJ Awards 2025 

Public Agency Official

An elected or appointed official who has contributed significantly to advancing ITS in New Jersey. Public employees are also eligible within the category.
2025 Award Winner: Syed A. Kazmi 

 

ITSNJ Professional

An individual who has advanced ITS significantly in New Jersey.
2025 ITS Professional Award: Leomar Almanzar

 

ITSNJ Mobility Service Award

An individual demonstrating service and leadership, and excellence achieved in such fields as safety, maintenance, innovation, customer service, or operations.
2025 Mobility Service Award: William McNally

 

ITSNJ Young Professional

An individual, 35 years of age or younger, who has advanced ITS in New Jersey.
2025 ITSNJ Young Professional Award: Hasnain Syed 

 

Outstanding Project or Program

A project or program employing or advancing ITS technologies; including infrastructure, plans, research, management, or other significant innovation.

2025 Outstanding Project Award - Regional/Statewide Agencies for Construction/Implementation:
"New Jersey Statewide Advanced Traffic Manafgement System (ATMS) Implementation"  - NJDOT

2025 Outstanding Project Award - Local Public Agencies for Design:
"DVRPC Digital Alerting Program: A Regional Solution to Protect Responders and Save Lives" - DVRPC

2025 Outstanding Project Award - Local Public Agencies for Construction/Implementation:
"Real-Time Monitoring and Coordinated Signal Optimization to Maintain Mobiltiy During Construction Activities for the Jersey Avenue Road Closure" - City of Hoboken
