ITSNJ Scholarship Details and Criteria

Pertinent information and guidelines for ITSNJ Scholarship eligibility are as follows:

  • Eligible applicants must be student members and/or affiliated to members of the ITSNJ Chapter in good standing.
  • Eligible applicants must be pursuing a degree at universities, colleges, and academic institutions in the State of New Jersey (exception is the ‘Student of the Industry Award’ where applicant may be pursuing a degree in New Jersey OR working in New Jersey). Applicants must have finished at least one academic year of study and maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • ITSNJ reserves the right to issue multiple solicitations each year. Students may reapply each application cycle they are eligible. Previous winners are not eligible to win the same award.

Outstanding Undergraduate/Graduate Student Award
This scholarship includes an undergraduate student award ($750) and a graduate student award ($1,250). The applicant is requested to submit all the below mentioned information to the ITSNJ scholarship committee.

  • The application form (apply online)
  • A copy of official transcript
  • A faculty recommendation letter (25% of overall score), which shall state appraisal of the applicants in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity and interests.
  • A resume (30% of overall score), which shall include:
    • Activities as a member of ITSNJ or in the ITS field
    • Extra-curricular activities in sports, campus activities, service organizations, honor societies, publications, etc.
  • A succinct comprehensive statement (< 500 words) of the object and scope of plans for the future (45% of overall score), which shall include:
    • The type of work you are preparing for
    • Your continuing education plans for the next few years and your ultimate goals
    • The reasons why you think you should earn the award

    Student of the Industry Award
    This award ($1,000) is available to a student who is currently working in the industry (paid or unpaid) performing tasks related to ITS for either public or private sectors. The applicant is requested to submit all the below mentioned information to the ITSNJ scholarship committee.

    • The application form (apply online)
    • A copy of official transcript
    • A faculty recommendation letter (15% of overall score), which shall state appraisal of the applicants in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity and interests
    • A referral letter from the employer (15% of overall score)
    • A resume (25% of overall score), which shall include
      • Activities as a member of ITSNJ or in the ITS field
      • Extra-curricular activities in sports, campus activities, service organizations, honor societies, publications, etc.
    • A statement about ITS related work engagement(s) with one key involved project highlighted (< 1 page)
    • A succinct comprehensive statement (< 500 words) of the object and scope of your plans for the future, which shall include
      • The type of work you are preparing for
      • Daily role and responsibilities while at place of employment
      • The reasons why you think you should earn the award
    • (Both statements combined for 45% of overall score)

    The Future of ITSNJ Award

    This award ($2,000) is available to a student or a team of students actively engaged in ITS-related research. The applicant is requested to submit all the below mentioned information to the ITSNJ scholarship committee.

    • The application form (apply online)
    • A list of the team members’ names (if applicable)
    • A copy of official transcript for each team member
    • A faculty recommendation letter (20% of overall score), which shall state appraisal of the applicant(s) in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity and interests
    • Research abstract (50% of overall score), related publications, and explain how your research will impact the industry in the future (< 2 pages)
    • A succinct comprehensive statement (< 500 words) of the object and scope of your plans for the future (30% of overall score), which shall include
      • The type of work you are preparing for
      • The reasons why you think you should earn the award
